Schools Raise $2,000 For Hurricane Relief

hurricane check groupWhile the suffering continues in Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Marie, students and staff at Harding Middle School and Harrison, Hayes and Lincoln elementary schools are doing their part to help. Art teacher Cesar Vegas initiated the donation drive and combined, these schools, raised more than $2,032 for relief efforts. Representatives from the Cleveland Foundation and Julia de Burgos Cultural Art Center, who are helping to facilitate donations through the Puerto Rico Community Foundation were on hand at Harding Oct. 19 to accept the money raised. Harding 8th Grader Is SWC Cross Country Champion

danny garciaCongratulations to Harding eighth-grader Danny Garcia, who won the Southwest Conference middle school cross country title with a time of 11:08 in the two-mile race. Other top 10 finishers for the championship meet, held on Oct. 14, were James O'Donnell (7th) and James Toole (9th), both of Harding. The team will compete Sunday, Oct. 22 at the Middle School State Championship meet in Columbus. 

Athletic Ticket Packages Now on Sale

rangermanThe start of the winters sports season is just around the corner. The Athletic Department is selling family and single ticket packages. Grant 5th Grader Chosen as This Year's Junior Fire Chief

valerie morrisFire Prevention Week means the crowning of a new Junior Fire Chief. Congratulations to Grant Elementary 5th grader Valerie Morris, who was chosen based on her essay titled "Every Second Counts." As is custom every year, the new Junior Chief earned a special ride to school in a fire truck. She also had the honor of reading her essay at the Fallen Firefighter Ceremony on October 8.  

K-5 Literacy Night Scheduled for Oct. 26

booksThe Teaching & Learning Department will host a K-5 Literacy Night on Thursday, October 26 from 6:30-7:30 pm at Emerson Elementary School. The program will share what the District is doing to grow readers and writers through the workshop curriculum. You will also learn how you can support your student's work at home. See you there!

Board Presentation on Report Card Emphasizes Growth

At the most recent Board of Education meeting, Assistant Superintendent Roxann-Ramsey Caserio and Director of Teaching and Learning Christine Palumbo presented an in-depth look at the numbers behind the District's 2016-2017 State Report Card. Looking at the data behind the letter grades shows growth in many areas. Ranger Cafe Accepting Reservations; Opens Oct. 24

cafe logoThe Ranger Café at West Shore, located at Lakewood High School, will be open for business beginning on Tuesday, October 24. Ranger Café is operated by the students and staff of the Culinary Arts program of the West Shore Career-Technical District. They cook the food, wait on the tables, manage the cash register and everything else that goes along with running a restaurant. The food is fabulous and the prices reasonable!

Grant PTA Seeks Vendors for Craft Fair Nov. 11

GrantGrant PTA is looking for vendors for its Vendor & Craft Holiday Mingle on Saturday, November 11 from 9 am - noon at Grant Elementary School. There is a $30 entry fee plus a raffle basket must be provided. Applications must be in by November 1 by emailing maha_metri@yahoo.com
