News & Announcements

Eclipse Information

On Monday, August 21, 2017, a rare and
spectacular event will take place… a total solar
eclipse. In order to watch the moon moving
between the sun and earth you must take
safety precautions to protect your eyes.
Your child’s safety is paramount so Hayes
will be viewing the eclipse but in their classrooms. The district is
setting up video streaming so the children have an opportunity to
be a part of this extraordinary occurrence.

30-30-30 Information

Summer Reading 30-30-30

Your child’s class went on a Lakewood Library Field Trip and received a copy of the 30-30-30 Summer Reading Challenge. If you do not have the 30-30-30 paperwork that was provided, document the 30 books, 30 hours, or 30 chapters your child read over the summer and send it to school on August 21st.

Summer Slide

James Kim of the Harvard Graduate School of Education — found the effect of reading four to five books over the summer was large enough to prevent a decline in reading-achievement scores from the spring to the fall. Kim’s other finding was children who said they had easy access to books over the summer ended up reading more.

The best way to push back against the summer slide is with your library card!

All Hayes students are expected to complete the 30 Books 30 Chapters 30 Hours Lakewood Library Challenge! Forms were provided to your child before the end of the school year. All students bringing their completed form to school by Tuesday, August 22nd will participate in Ice Cream Bash!

Girls on the Run 2017

The girls did AWESOME!!!! :-) When the girls were asked to shout out one word they felt after we had finished, PROUD and HAPPY were the two I heard loudest. I can’t wait for that feeling to continue into next week and next weekend at our race on the 20th.

THANK YOU so much to the parents that joined us! We loved having the extra hands, and more importantly the extra support!

Shout out to our finish line rock stars, Sophia Z. and Emily S.! They kept their spirits high even though they couldn’t run with us and helped us finish strong!

Shout out to Mrs. Doren for helping us out- your chalk messages definitely helped us keep going! I think you’re right- the kittens were definitely cheering us on!
