LHS TEAM COMPETES ON ACADEMIC CHALLENGE SATURDAY

teamThis Saturday, Feb 18, the Lakewood High School Academic Challenge team will compete on the Academic Challenge show, airing on Channel 5, WEWS, at 7 pm. The team has been burning through the regular Southwest Conference season and stands at 6-1 in conference play. Over the past five years in conference play, Lakewood has an outstanding record of 36-2.  

LHS Inducts 68 New Members Into NHS Chapter

NHS logoThe current members of the Lakewood High National Honor Society welcomed 68 new members into the prestigious academic group at an induction ceremony held at the Civic Auditorium on Feb. 15. Gaining entry into NHS is the highest honor a school can bestow upon a student.

NEW LHS GROUP GIVES GIRLS TOOLS TO THRIVE

ROX logoLakewood High guidance counselor Nina DeChant has started a girls’ empowerment group at LHS that is already improving the lives and attitudes of its members only a few short weeks into the program. “My self esteem has gotten higher and it’s helped me with relationships,” says one member of ROX.  “It’s a place where I’m not judged,” said another girl of her ROX group.

2017-2018 Preschool Registration Now Open

abcsRegistration for the Lakewood City Schools' 2017-2018 5-star rated preschool program is now open. Students must be 3 or 4 years old before September 30, 2017, live in Lakewood and be potty-trained to be eligible for the program. Download this registration packet or pick up a packet at the Board of Education, 1470 Warren Road, in the Student Services Department on the second floor. For more information, call 216-529-4214.

STRONG SECTIONAL EARNS 14 SWIMMERS/DIVERS DISTRICT SPOT

ranger logoThe Lakewood High swimming and diving team will be sending 12 swimmers and two divers to the Division 1 Northwest District Championship Meet after an impressive showing at the Sectionals meet on Feb. 11 at Cleveland State, including numerous top 10 finishes at a meet that included 17 teams.

SENIOR BELL SCORES HIGHEST IN COUNTY ON GOVERNMENT TEST

Ian BellCongratulations to senior Ian Bell, who was the highest scorer in Cuyahoga County on the American Legion Government & Americanism test administered by American Legion Post 451 in Rocky River. Bell's test will now be forwarded to the Department of Ohio American Legion to compete with top scorers from other districts around Ohio. 

PBIS COORDINATOR HELPS FOSTER POSITIVE SCHOOL CULTURES

WotjkunPositive Behavioral & Intervention Supports – or PBIS – has played a key role at several of our schools in developing a positive, respectful and inclusive culture conducive to learning. Now the District has dedicated a staff member to developing a more extensive PBIS network throughout the District.

MIDDLE SCHOOLS PARTICIPATE IN "START WITH HELLO" WEEK

Hello logoThe District’s two middle schools continued their engagement with the Sandy Hook Promise organization’s programs designed to empower students to be inclusive and tolerant of others and build a school community based on kindness and respect. This week the two schools participated in “Start With Hello” week, which is a follow up to the “Say Something” week that occurred in October.

OPEN ENROLLMENT PERIOD BEGINS MARCH 1

The open enrollment period for parents who wish to send their student to a school other than their assigned school for the 2017-2018 school year will be open from March 1-March 30. The first notification period will be from June 5-12 and the final notification round will be Aug. 14-18. The application form will be available on our web site on March 1. Any questions? DISTRICT PARTNERS WITH CITY FOR NEW TREE PROGRAM

You can make a difference and give the gift that keeps on growing!  Your tax-deductible donation can make a difference in a student’s school experience. The Lakewood City Schools has teamed up with the City of Lakewood and Keep Lakewood Beautiful to launch Lakewood City Schools Gift-a-Tree Fund, which will allow donors to purchase trees for our school grounds.
